Think of AI as an extremely well-read assistant that has:
Imagine the world's most voracious reader — someone who finished every book in the Library of Congress and every page on the internet.

That's essentially what modern AI does.
Artificial Intelligence. Any computer system that does something normally requiring human thinking — reading, writing, recognizing faces, solving problems.
Large Language Model. AI trained on enormous amounts of text. It understands and generates language. Claude is an LLM.
Generative Pre-trained Transformer. A type of AI. "Pre-trained" means it learned before you talked to it. "Generative" means it creates new content.
The trained AI program — the "brain." Different models have different strengths. Some are great at writing, some at images, some at music.

Trained on so much text, it learned how humans write. When you ask it something, it predicts — one word at a time — the most natural, helpful response.

Despite the name "Artificial Intelligence," modern AI does not:
It is an extraordinarily sophisticated autocomplete. A very, very good pattern-matching machine.
Imagine a parrot that has heard every conversation in human history and can recombine those sounds perfectly.
It sounds like it understands. It can even surprise you. But it has no idea what the words actually mean.
That is much closer to what an LLM actually is.
AI is an extraordinary tool, not an authority. It can be wrong with complete confidence. Always bring your own judgment — especially for important decisions.
