Why It's Happening

AI Can Now Write Code

The biggest expense in building software has always been paying skilled programmers. AI has become extraordinarily good at writing code — faster, cheaper, and available to anyone.

What This Unlocks

  • Describe what you want — AI builds it
  • Prototypes that took 3 months now take 3 hours
  • Small communities can afford custom tools
  • Ideas can be tested before spending real money

Right now, AI coding tools are writing 30–50% of the code at many major tech companies — and that number grows every month.

A Real Example — Class 1

The investor-ready business plan we built together? Research, financials, market analysis, full website.

In 2019: $15,000 · 6 weeks

With AI: Free · 4 minutes

The New Reality

The limiting factor is no longer money or technical skill. It's imagination and the ability to describe what you want. That's something every person in this room already has.

Beyond Code

It's Not Just Software

The same cost collapse is happening across almost every creative and intellectual field.

📄

Documents & Writing

Letters, reports, newsletters, brochures, flyers — anything that used to go to a professional writer or designer.

🎨

Design & Graphics

Logos, event posters, social graphics — AI generates them from plain text. That's exactly what we're doing today.

🎵

Music & Audio

Full original songs with vocals — like the music video we made in Class 1. Would have cost $5,000–$20,000 in a recording studio.

🎬

Video Production

Short films, promotional videos, tutorials — tasks that once required a full production crew are now solo projects.

✈️

Interactive Software — Even Games

Fully playable 3D applications, games, and simulations — built from a single sentence description. We started one while I was talking about costs. Let's see it now.

🎬 The Reveal

A Playable 3D Flight Simulator —
Built While I Was Talking to You

⏱ Built in ~60 seconds 💬 From one plain-English sentence 💰 Cost: $0 🎮 Fully playable right now

The Prompt That Built This

"Build a playable 3D flight simulator as a single HTML file using Three.js. Include: a controllable airplane (arrow keys to pitch and roll, W/S for throttle), procedurally generated terrain with green hills, a blue sky with clouds, a HUD showing speed and altitude, and a camera that follows the plane. Beautiful soft lighting and horizon fog."

In 2019 this game would have needed a professional developer, $10,000–$30,000, and 3–6 months. Claude wrote every line of code in about 60 seconds while you were sitting in your seats.

Switch to the Claude tab you opened earlier — the simulator should be finished generating

In Claude — Click the Artifact Preview

Claude generates the simulator as an artifact. Click the preview panel on the right side — it opens full screen and is immediately playable.

Controls

⬆⬇ Arrow keys — pitch up / down
⬅➡ Arrow keys — roll left / right
W / S — throttle up / down
Just fly!

Keeping It Real

What AI Still Can't Replace

AI Is Still Limited At…

  • Deep original creative vision
  • True subject-matter expertise
  • Physical presence and human relationships
  • Guaranteeing accuracy in high-stakes fields
  • Truly novel inventions — first-of-kind ideas
  • Common sense and lived experience

The Right Mental Model

A highly capable intern who can draft almost anything quickly — but still needs a knowledgeable human to review the work, catch errors, and make the final call.

What This Class Is About

Using that capable intern to make real, useful things. Up next: two professional event flyers — using photos of people in this room.

How We'll Do It

Chaining AI Tools Together

Different AI tools have different superpowers. Here's how we combine them:

📸
Step 1 · Claude
Analyzes your photos. Describes each person's appearance in detail. Writes the image generation prompt.
→
🎨
Step 2 · Image AI
Takes Claude's prompt. Generates the cartoon characters or enhanced venue photo.
→
⬇️
Step 3 · You
Download the generated image. Upload it back into Claude for the final flyer.
→
✨
Step 4 · Claude
Builds the complete, print-ready flyer around your image. Ready to download.

Why This Matters as a Lesson

No single AI does everything perfectly. Learning to chain tools together — using each one for what it's best at — is the real skill. This is how professionals use AI in 2026.

🎯 Demo #1 — Bocce Ball Flyer · Tool 1 of 2: ChatGPT

Step 1: Turn Photos into Cartoon Characters

First we get volunteers and take their photos. Then we bring those photos into ChatGPT — which can actually generate real images from photos — and ask it to create a cartoon bocce scene featuring them.

📷 Take the Photos First

  • 3–5 volunteers is ideal
  • Face clearly visible, decent lighting
  • One photo per person works best
  • Always ask permission first

Then Open ChatGPT

Upload all the photos at once into ChatGPT, paste the prompt from the next section, and hit send. ChatGPT will generate a real illustrated image of cartoon versions of your volunteers playing bocce ball.

Takes about 20–30 seconds. Free with a ChatGPT account.

📋 ChatGPT Image Prompt

I'm uploading photos of the people we'd like to feature. Please create a warm, fun cartoon illustration in a Pixar/Disney 3D style showing all of them playing bocce ball together on a sunny outdoor lawn. Study each person's photo carefully and make their cartoon version recognizable — match their hair color and style, glasses if they wear them, approximate age and build, and clothing colors. Show them in active, joyful poses with bocce balls on a green lawn with a blue sky. The mood should be cheerful and community-spirited. Make it look like a high-quality illustration that could appear on an event flyer.

Step 2: Claude Builds the Flyer

Open Claude, upload the cartoon image you downloaded from ChatGPT, then paste this prompt. Claude will build a complete, print-ready flyer around your image.

📋 Claude Flyer Prompt — Upload Your Image First, Then Send This

I'm attaching a cartoon illustration of some residents from our community playing bocce ball. Please turn this into a beautiful, professional event flyer I can print — US Letter size, output as a single SVG file. Use warm greens and sunny yellows, a friendly rounded font, and make the cartoon image the centerpiece near the top of the flyer. All the event details should be clearly laid out below it. EVENT DETAILS: • Event: Sunrise Pines Bocce Ball Tournament • Date: Saturday, May 10th, 2025 • Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM • Location: The Main Lawn (behind Building C) • Teams: Pairs — 2 players per team • Entry: Free for all residents • Prizes: Trophy + $25 gift card for 1st place · Trophy for 2nd place • Refreshments: Lemonade and snacks provided • RSVP: Activities Desk by May 7th · Ext. 204

I've attached a cartoon illustration of some residents playing bocce ball. Create a print-ready event flyer as a single SVG file — US Letter size (816 × 1056 px at 96dpi). Embed all fonts using a Google Fonts @import inside a style block. Place the attached cartoon image prominently in the upper portion using a foreignObject image element. EVENT DETAILS: • Event: Sunrise Pines Bocce Ball Tournament • Date: Saturday, May 10th, 2025 • Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM • Location: The Main Lawn (behind Building C) • Teams: Pairs — 2 players per team • Entry: Free for all residents • Prizes: Trophy + $25 gift card for 1st place · Trophy for 2nd place • Refreshments: Lemonade and snacks provided • RSVP: Activities Desk by May 7th · Ext. 204 DESIGN: Warm, earthy greens and sunny yellows. Friendly rounded font. Fun and welcoming — all skill levels encouraged. Big bold headline at top, cartoon image below it, event details cleanly in the lower half, RSVP at the bottom. Professional quality — looks like a real community event poster. Output only the raw SVG code starting with <svg and ending with </svg>. No explanation, no markdown fences.

In Claude: drag your downloaded cartoon image into the chat, paste the prompt above, hit Enter. Claude builds the full flyer in about 20 seconds. If the image doesn't embed correctly, use the 🔧 Technical Backup button instead.

What You Now Have

  • A real illustrated cartoon image of your volunteers
  • A professional print-ready SVG flyer built around it
  • All event details formatted cleanly
  • To print: save the SVG, open in Chrome, hit Ctrl+P
  • Prints perfectly sharp at any size — no pixelation

Tweak Anything in Claude

"Make the headline bigger and use a darker green."

"Add a line: bring comfortable shoes and sunscreen."

"Make it feel more like a party — add some excitement to the tone."

Two Tools, One Great Result

ChatGPT did what it's great at — generating a real, beautiful image from photos.

Claude did what it's great at — understanding context, writing copy, and building a polished formatted document around that image.

Neither tool alone gives you the full result. Together they do.

🎤 Ask the Class

What other events here could use a flyer like this? Holiday party? Card tournament? Fitness class? The same two-step process works for any of them.

🎯 Demo #2 — Symphony Flyer · Tool 1 of 2: ChatGPT

Step 1: Add an Orchestra to the Venue Photo

We have a photo of the interior of the venue. ChatGPT can edit a real photo — so we ask it to place a full symphony orchestra performing inside that space. The result is a photorealistic image, not a drawing.

What Photos to Have Ready

  • Interior photo — ChatGPT adds the orchestra to this
  • Exterior photo — used as a second image on the finished flyer
  • No interior? Skip straight to Step 2 — Claude designs an elegant flyer without it

The Venue

Beatitudes Campus · Phoenix, AZ
1616 W Glendale Ave. A beautiful campus — the perfect setting for an elegant evening of classical music.

📋 ChatGPT Image Editing Prompt

Upload your interior venue photo into ChatGPT, then send this:

Please edit this photo to add a full classical symphony orchestra performing in this space. Add approximately 40–50 musicians seated in formal concert formation — strings in front, woodwinds and brass behind, percussion at the back. All musicians in formal black concert attire with music stands. Keep the room's existing architecture, lighting, walls, and decor exactly as they are. The orchestra should look naturally integrated, as if they are actually performing here right now. Photorealistic quality.

📋 Claude Flyer Prompt — Upload Your Images First, Then Send This

I'm attaching photos of our venue. Please use the orchestra image as the main centerpiece of a beautiful, elegant concert flyer I can print — US Letter size, output as a single SVG file. Use deep navy blue and warm gold, a sophisticated serif font, and make this feel like a high-end concert hall program. If I've included an exterior photo too, use it as a smaller accent on the flyer. EVENT DETAILS: • Event: An Evening of Classics • Performing: The Desert Winds Chamber Orchestra • Date: Friday, May 16th, 2025 • Doors: 6:30 PM · Concert: 7:00 PM • Venue: The Grand Pavilion, Beatitudes Campus • Address: 1616 W Glendale Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85021 • Program: Vivaldi's Four Seasons · Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata · Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik • Tickets: $20 general · Free for Beatitudes residents • RSVP: Activities Desk by May 14th · Limited seating • Dress: Smart casual

I've attached images of our venue. Use the orchestra photo as the main hero image and the exterior photo (if included) as a secondary accent. Create a print-ready event flyer as a single SVG file — US Letter size (816 × 1056 px at 96dpi). Embed all fonts using a Google Fonts @import inside a style block. Place the hero image prominently using a foreignObject image element. Deep navy blue and warm gold palette. Serif fonts — feel like a Lincoln Center program. US Letter portrait. The orchestra image should be the visual centerpiece — this is a prestige event. Output only the raw SVG code starting with <svg and ending with </svg>. No explanation, no markdown fences.

In Claude: drag in your downloaded images, paste the prompt above, hit Enter. The finished flyer appears in about 20 seconds. If the image doesn't embed correctly, use the 🔧 Technical Backup button instead.

🎶 Demo #2 — Symphony Concert Flyer · Complete

The Finished Concert Flyer

What You Now Have

  • A real photo of your actual venue — with a real orchestra inside it
  • An elegant professionally designed SVG concert flyer
  • To print: save the SVG, open in Chrome, hit Ctrl+P
  • Prints perfectly sharp at any size — true print quality

The Contrast Is the Lesson

Bocce flyer: fun, warm, earthy greens, friendly cartoon.
Symphony flyer: refined, navy and gold, serif fonts, real photo.

Same two tools. The AI understood the difference from your words alone. You didn't have to explain it.

Tweak Anything in Claude

"Add a short bio of the Desert Winds Chamber Orchestra."

"Make a half-page version I can use as a table tent at dinner."

"Add a Spanish translation of the key event details."

💡 Big Takeaway

The more clearly you describe the feeling you want — not just the facts — the better both tools match your vision. That skill is worth more than knowing any specific app.

The Key Takeaway

AI Tool Chaining — The Real Skill

What we just did wasn't about any single AI tool. It was about understanding which tool to use for which task and connecting them together.

What Each Tool Did

  • ChatGPT — turned real photos into cartoon art, added orchestra to the venue
  • Claude — understood context, wrote copy, built the polished SVG flyer
  • You — directed everything with plain English

This Is How Professionals Use AI in 2026

Top designers, writers, and developers don't use just one AI. They build pipelines — chains of tools where each one does what it's best at.

You just did exactly that. With no technical background. In under an hour.

That is the power of knowing how to ask.

Build a playable 3D flight simulator as a single self-contained HTML file using Three.js (load from CDN). Include: a controllable airplane (arrow keys to pitch and roll, W/S for throttle up/down), procedurally generated terrain with green hills and valleys, a blue sky gradient with simple white cloud shapes, a heads-up display showing speed and altitude in the top-left corner, and a smooth follow camera behind the plane. Use soft directional lighting, ambient light, and horizon fog for atmosphere. The plane should have basic gravity and lift physics. Make it beautiful — this is a demo for a live class.
